Reaction Engineering Team’s Mission:
- The Reaction Engineering Team is one pillar of the Advanced Research Development (ARD) Organization which is managed directly from SCREEN Japan.
- Build & manage reaction engineering technology roadmap in alignment with the SCREEN’s Semiconductor Processing Equipment (SPE).
- Give guidance to global ARD teams based on WW technological watch (conferences, collaborations, etc.).
- Generate and provide data to support atomic and molecular level of understanding of key processes used in semiconductor device manufacturing.
- Develop state-of the art characterization techniques
High level objectives:
- Generate database of reactions and byproducts of key reaction mixtures with various substrates
- Generate reliable analytical & functional test methods for characterization of reaction products in support of:
- Validating reaction models of existing processes used in manufacturing of semiconductor devices.
- Discover new process applications; boost and accelerate innovation across the company.
- Develop fundamental understanding of compatibility of chemicals and materials used in semiconductor processes & tools.
- Understand and train SCREEN engineers of process impacts on device performance & integration.
- Accelerate process development & enhance technology deployment success into the market.
Job specific role and responsibilities:
- Develop state-of the art analytical techniques to accelerate chemical compatibility tests.
- Support qualification of new chemicals and processes in the Cleaning Division, consistent with SCREEN’s business strategy.
- Develop strategies to improve sustainability for chemical and energy usage for customers using SCREEN equipment to manufacture devices.
- Perform DOE studies with the objective of improving process efficiencies and elucidating models and reaction mechanisms.
- Support PTC teams in conducting proof-of-concept evaluations at key customers and partners.
- Provide timely and accurate feedback focusing on historical trends and future directions for improvements.
- Provide regular updates about key customers’ and overall semiconductor market’s technical trends and roadmaps relevant to PTC’s key projects.
- Generate IP by capturing novel ideas and filing patent applications in timely manner. Support patent applications by generating quality data.
- Present research papers at international trade shows and scientific conferences.
- Prepare presentation material to be used for customers’ technical review meetings. The applicant could be asked to present to customers or delegate to coworker.
- Coordinate IP activities across Europe, U.S. and Japan Technical groups.
Ideal Job requirements
- 5+ year hands-on experience with semiconductor processes and characterization techniques.
- Hands-on experience with multiple metrology and structure characterization techniques such as mechanical testing, electron microscopy, Electron spectroscopy, Atomic Force microscopy, contact angle measurements, etc.
- Prior experience with Quality Management system is a plus.
- Experience with design of experiment (DOE) and other statistical methods
- Familiarity on semiconductor manufacturing equipment such as wet or dry cleaning / wet etching, lithography & track.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Experience in literature search in support of patentability and freedom-to-operate is highly desirable.
- Open-minded, resourceful, flexible, and adaptable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
- Detail orientation and excellent adherence to scientific method.
- MS or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field.
